  1. He was in the last one too, but it could have been anyone. Polls show kids like the baby Yoda - put the baby Marshmallow Man in this! Paul Rudd is trending from Ant Man 7. Sign him up!

The new one, "Ghostbuster Kids 2: Ice ghosts" has completely slipped by me

  2. It's certainly fun and I've definitely gotten my value from it, but honestly no one I know outside of niche gamers has even really heard of it or used it. Facebook were trying to make VR the next big thing everyone uses daily in offices non stop, but that concept died before it even took off.

The new gen of the headset is $1000 or something. A bit spendy for a walkabout golf machine, which is 99% of what it gets used for these days.

There are certainly benefits to Meta/Facebook having bought it out ($$$$$) but we'll never know what it might have been like if it has stayed the open source/community led kind of thing it was originally slated to be.

  3. It's like Ghostbusters but with ice!!! Ice powers ghosts

This is bizarre to me that there was no interest or buzz at all for the movie but then again it's the third or fourth reboot now, or sequel to a reboot or whatever.

Here's hoping for more ghost appearances by dead actors that can't remove their name from the movie, and can be inserted as a "tribute" to them. Bill Murray's lawyers working weekends trying to create the litigation that they can't use his ghost for perpetuity after he croaks. His final words will be, just let us die

  4. I heard the last who played "the unknown" villain has gotten a job at the London dungeon or something like that. I really don't like the idea that waves of things will come out about this and we're supposed to get the same chuckle about it. How on earth can you have a musical about a bad Willy Wonka experience unless you add a vast amount of imagined backstory. Who's the protagonist?

  5. I'm not sure the end goal is to make AI models of specific users, so the chances of seeing a chatbot that sounds like 1998 me is unlikely. More possible, they'll use it to train a perfectly natural and casual AI interface/chat system. I imagine if someone offered you 60 million for Toutless you'd have a good think about it, but it's easier to heckle from the back row.

If the internet gets choked with bots, political rabble rousing and fake content - which it kind of seems to be doing anyway - then people will move away from it and some new service or social media will come out with far stricter sign up rules and in my opinion that would be great. Don't confuse my fondness of Reddit Wellington with an overarching love of everything Reddit do.

I'm not concerned for what AI will do. Maybe it'll be great, maybe not, but it's happening and people can do it from their own homes. They can't stop it now without fast, strict legislation and even then, it'll just mean other countries get ahead in the race that don't have that legislation.

  6. I'm still not sure the AI scaremongering is anything other than "Abacus makers say calculators are bad for everyone".

Will we be going "Oh my god these AI advancements are the best thing ever" or "I wish we never made computers, pass me another bone to gnaw on please"? I think the former, as clever people start to make great uses of it.

Plus, if you think reddit are the first company to sell their data, you're several decades behind

  7. Thanks for this. I tend to get a new one every three years or so, don't spend more than $500 on them and then Quinn or Evelyn gets the old ones.

I used to be Samsung only but they are pretty scummy in truth, across all of their tech. TVs and smartphones packed full of uninstallable stuff like Facebook.

I tend to go Moto, and get the best I can within budget. Never had a problem, stock android, fast, easy and amazing battery life.

Catch us up on part two whenever you can

  8. It's interesting to see the tech "take off", at least in the world of influencers and viral online clips. Not seen anyone in real life wearing one but it can't be long.

Apple are getting into the game 5-10 years after it started, but that means they can begin with a product that mimics or improves on already existing tech, so they'll get that wow factor. By that I mean they have video passthrough looking pretty great already, something that Meta have only recently gotten right. The meta quest 2s that Al, Pat and myself use to play minigolf (arranged earlier in this topic) have pretty awful passthrough/live video feed tech. It's grey, it's blurry and it's not great. The meta quest 3's have pretty solid full video pass through, as does this apple headset.

I imagine as the tech gets lighter and better, the straps won't need to look like grandma's bra is around the back of your head. Basically the closer we can get this to looking and feeling light, easy and secure, the better. Battery life is the other factor. I guess it has a chunky external battery?

It can't be more than a few years away if this being a full time HUD showing directions, restaurant reviews as you look at them, weather alerts, a ban on using them while driving (distracting), and maybe even facial recognition or similar to do who knows what.

    Interesting stuff.

  9. > Not with a bang but a damp squid (sic)

Worth the read for that gem

I've not seen any Aquaman movies and somehow have even less desire to now. I was forced to watch the trailer for it before a cinema movie recently (Wonka?). I just remember thinking "nope" but to be fair I thought that about almost all the other trailers too. There was some animated movie about ducks migrating that looked equally shite
