  1. I have been tempted to get into the voice synthesis AI stuff! Honestly this new wave of AI has grabbed me in a way that nothing has since me self-learning Flash back in the day, and i got obsessed with doing that. Probably within six months there'll be a website you can drop ten pics of someone into and pump out any number of AI generated images of them. Likewise with a few sound clips. The genie is out of the bottle now for better or for worse.

    For the record I thought that sounded pretty damn good. If you had a week more to0 blend up the audio it would be essentially seamless

  2. Thanks for taking the time to write this. Your description of events matches mine really closely, and am currently having the same experiences regards a new relationship too. The human mind has a very resilient yet extremely unhelpful tendency to wrap around and smooth over horrible broken things that aren't ok, and just file them under "I'll deal with that some other time".

    If it's any consolation, there'll be a bit of a bowl shaped graph of "feeling like shit" with a steep upturn at the far end and it sounds like you may have already reached it, if you're in a new relationship. I took me two years of solo self-care, painting, learning guitar, travel, focusing on Ev and Quinn, and then a year of kind-of half dating and generally exploring. Interesting stuff. I went into dating in earnest at year 3 and that's when I met Amy, and it's been wonderful so far.

  3. We don't need to stay there but if we could just drop by and all use the toilet that would be great, thank u

    I'm reading back through topics and the last time I went to ireland my back teeth started to fall out. It's like witchcraft

  4. I'm still not sure I've ever had it, but I put that down to working from home daily and not commuting. I should have gotten it from the bigger events I host, but I am all vaxxed up so hopefully no issues if it does happen

  5. Decorated the house outside and in this year, as we're in a bit of a prominent spot in a suburb known for trick or treating. It was a complete treat to see cars and a bus load of people go by reacting to the giant spider and cocoon. Probably got 150+ trick or treaters, and it was amazing. Had to break into my emergency cinema lollies and popcorn because I rapidly ran out of other stuff. I loved opening the door with spooky music playing, and I'm sure a lot of those kids will remember Halloween fondly. Absolutely loved it

  6. I think it's well worth it. Expertly made movie, made using obsessively accurate language and dress of the time. Certain scenes are virtually verbatim of descriptions of "witchy events" from witch trials. It's not some terrifying thing from beginning to end. It has a beautiful deep slow build, interspersed with some shocking stuff. I've probably seen it three times but it gets me every time. The final ten minutes everyone was pretty much silent and holding breath in the cinema. Quality!

  7. I went with The Vvitch, the A24 horror. Very well received, some properly spooked people

    Had tons of prizes to give away, maybe too many really. All fifty people got a prize ranging from free pizza to board games, escape room vouchers, axe throwing sessions, various gourmet popcorn, lollies.. heaps of stuff

  8. I'm horribly not into politics. Some people are really going bonkers here over this. People get such a zoomed in view of politics and gnash and wail when crap like this happens. I see it just like a pendulum or probably or a circle flowchart.

    • People feel downtrodden ->
    • People want change ->
    • Opposite party to one currently in gets elected, promising change ->
    • minor improvement then back to the same old crap ->
    • people feel downtrodden <-

    Back and forth over time

    It's a wonderful system for making sure that over a long period of time, you stay roughly in the middle unless you get a Putin, Hitler etc, but it also means that virtually nothing gets done in a place like New Zealand. Labour were doing all of these improvements to public transport here, cycle lanes, bus corridors and so on. National (newly elected) announced theyre scrapping all of that - after hundreds of millions of dollars was pumped into it. What a mess. National will start up some big thing to help business and economic recovery, and in a few years Labour will get back in, scrap it all, and so on and so forth

  9. I forgot all the people that are in that movie, Rick Moranis, Bill Murray, Steve Martin (playing a weirdly abusive guy), Christopher Guest, etc. It was a fun one. I was waiting for a scene of the plants smashing up the twin towers but never happened

    I probably watched it 30 times as a kid, but not since. Really enjoyed it

  10. I showed the directors cut of Little Shop of Horrors last weekend, the one where the plant eats the main characters and destroys New York. Fun feedback, especially from people who only knew the theatrical release.

    Now onto Halloween! Currently asking the local fun businesses if they want to swap some freebies as prizes in exchange for showing a thank you image before the screening

  11. We watched one more season of this, the first ever Australian one. About five of the ten people dropped out within a few days, several after just a day. It was hard to watch them because they were so stressed and incompetent. One guy did a big spiritual prayer and welcome to the land, explaining who he was, asking for help from the land. He then went to sleep and quit the next day

    One guy was a jet plane, helicopter flying kind of action man adventurous type. He was so innovative, making genuinely cool traps, building a full canoe. He was just incredibly unlucky and creatures would set off his big net traps but just barely avoid it.

    I think we're done watching Alone now.

  12. So the tech is getting better.

    I've heard Stephen Fry says his voice has been used completely against his wishes to train an AI, and it's narrating a nature show. He says he never said any of the lines. I can understand why this is worrying
