  1. It's genuinely terrifying. The following screenshot captures the moment perfectly: Three middle-aged men, hiding in a closet from a virtual ghost, each scared absolutely witless. And even though we're becoming proficient ghost hunters, the terror is still there. Every week I say I'm going to try the VR, but then make some excuse for why I'm not. We all know it's fear but they're kind enough to not bring it up.

  2. Does anyone play phasmophobia? The VR experience is supposed to be pretty good. I’ve been playing every week with a couple of friends and it’s a good time. I’d be down for having a game or two with y’all.

What stick did you go for? I have a logitech 3d extreme which is the pretty bargain basement (and always fun to keep an eye out for as a prop in various sci-fi shows).

I have the Thrustmaster TFlight. It's pretty bargain basement as well but I wasn't prepared to dump any real money into one until I'm sure I'll use it enough. It makes the experience far more immersive, regardless of quality.

Just played Star Wars Squadrons. This was perfect! Sitting in the X-Wing Cockpit.. fully modeled in loads of 3D Detail... tracking X-Wings as they zipped by with my view while the ship turned to follow. This is where the head mounted display really makes a HUGE difference to the game. I am looking forward to getting to try the combo VR, flight stick and multiplayer.

Squadrons in VR is incredible. I actually picked up a flight stick almost exclusively for this game. I've ended up using the HOTAS for MS Flight Simulator as well, though I've yet to try that in VR. I bought an original Oculus off a friend's teenage son last April or May and haven't used it much outside of the games mentioned. I know there's a bunch of stuff I can't play because my set is too old but my experience has been pretty good so far. Not sure if you guys have mentioned it, but there's a Space Walk experience made by the BBC that you definitely should avoid. I haven't had any issues with VR sickness but that nearly had me vomiting and found it very difficult to reorient for a couple of hours.
  5. It's too bad this isn't multiplayer. I was in the process of sending an email out to some friends when I realised this might not be multiplayer. I think Em and I are still going to grab it and give it a go.
  6. If you like greatest hits albums, this movie is for you. For me, it was pretty meh. Lots of bombast and spectacle but little substance. Is there a German word for when something becomes too over the top? If so, that word would perfectly describe this movie. As Chimpy said, worth it to conclude it all, but otherwise pretty disappointing.
  7. It exceeded my expectations. Based on what I had seen in the ads, I wasn't sure how I was going to feel about the animation and the comedy. The animation was exceptional (particularly in 3D), the jokes mostly landed, the voice work was flawless and the story had substantial emotional heft. It also had some darker moments I wasn't expecting. A 4.5 for me as well.
  8. What NAS are you using? I have a Synology, and Firestick has Synology apps, so I can watch anything on my NAS via Firestick without issue. As you said, though, I rarely use it anymore, as most streaming platforms have what I want to watch. There are some exceptions, which the NAS comes in handy for, but it won't be long before it just simply gathers dust.
  9. I actually just picked up that PS4 Pro with RDR2 last weekend. I traded in my Destiny Limited Edition console, which I got decent value for, so it only cost me $200 extra. It was tough parting with that console, as it was quite nice, but it was starting to act a little wonky and figured I'd get something for it before it became worthless. I also had a gift card and a 20% discount bonus from buying the console, so I picked up Spider Man during the Black Friday sale. I've yet to play it, as I'm still a bit (a lot) consumed by Destiny but also making time for Red Dead. I've heard great things but it'll likely be a couple of months before I start playing it.
  10. That is brilliant! I had a read through and it is very entertaining. I applaud everyone's commitment to it, even if it was just a few minutes a week. Never forget the birds of Calico!

As far as Free to play games go Warframe is quite fun. It is a Destiny-esque scifi shooter/brawler where new levels and gears make the numbers subtract from the enemies faster. The gameplay though is really fun with lots of movement fluidity.. jumping twirling.. sliding... which can be combined with shooting and specials and melee. How grindy it gets I can't say yet but it is surprisingly pretty too as it has been in dev for a few years. A big open world expansion has been added recently and that could be interesting too.

For the past couple of years I've played a ton of Destiny. I'm part of a clan, have a weekly raid group, etc. In the couple of months prior to Destiny 2 dropping, many players from our clan jumped into Warframe and really loved it, praising game play, design and customisation. They also universally agreed that it is one hell of a grind if you opt out of pay-to-win. Destiny 1 and its expansions were definitely a grind, but it improved during its three-year lifespan. I didn't start playing Destiny until year 2 so I missed a lot of the initial release's painful grinding, but the veterans of the clan who jumped into Warframe said Destiny's grind doesn't hold a candle to Warframe's. Despite that, they still loved it and plan to get back into Warframe now that they're beginning to burn out on Destiny 2.
