  1. I haven't been watching too many movies over the past two years, partially because I believe that city life hinders one's desire/need for cinema... so many other things to do, or people to meet up with in the flesh, why see a movie unless it's to unwind on your own couch with a beer?

So I was suprised to notice that THREE DVD cases in my modest movie collection had exactly the same color yellow background. Why? Am I attracked to the color or was it a marketing ploy on the part of some brilliant producer? Who knows, although yellow is certainly in this season (has been for the past 4, so why stop now?), but here are the picks:

LITTLE MISS SUNSHINE: Brilliant movie about a disfunctional family coping with growing pains... Check out the YouTube, it's my favorite part.

EVERYTHING IS ILLUMINATED: Hilarious and heart breaking, I laughed, I cried for half an hour after it ended, and my mom bought the DVD... we're so glad she did. Plus, the dog's name in the flick is Sammy Davis Jr. Jr. What's not to love. Check out Alex introducing his family:

IT'S ALWAYS SUNNY IN PHILADELPHIA: Hilarious show, that appeals to my darker sense of humor. I particularly enjoy the episode about going American on your ass! I cannot seem to find this clip on youtube, but here's a teaser:
  2. Now now, clowns have feelings too.

Over the past few months I've been the manager for this troupe: www.waldowoodhead.com
They were together for 25 years until they experianced, what we call in the business, a divorce. My job became somewhat superfluous from that point on since I was supposed to be getting them gigs.

    *sigh*
  3. My Degree is in Theatre with a focus in Costume design (millinery, period undergarments, make up and knitting). From June-November I'm interning at a theatre on Cape cod... YAY beach! After that, I'm not sure, but we shall see. My minors are small business and art history, so I have lots of options, I'm not too worried.
  4. I'm kind of psyched to be away from academia for a bit, although I think I'm going to end up going to grad school at some point... just not any time soon.

PS: The Dresden Dolls are from the town where my boy grew up. They Rock.
  5. Hello All.

I have missed you so! I'm posting in a dank little green room at 1:21 AM on a Monday night because I can no longer focus on anything. Indeed, Senioritus, which I began to show signs of in March, has festered in my brain. Diagnosis: Graduation.

So, is anyone else done with the wonder that is an undergraduate degree this year?

Also, for all of yall who have graduated, any thoughts on the real world? In short: should I move to Ireland in January, or wait for a bit?

I will post pictures soon of my final projects, which included an 18th century farce, 6 hats, and 13 final costume designs.
  6. Alright, this is a very interesting topic... gay people in the church, namely, as priests... Wouldn't this be a good thing? Gay men do not have a high incidence rate of molesting boys. In fact most of them are quite wonderful with children. And wasn't it more acceptable to become a priest if you were gay then to come out to everyone and renounce your beliefs? Maybe I don't get it since I'm not catholic, really, but it's such a sexist belief. Furthermore, if you're gay and you want to become a priest, couldn't you just lie? I mean, you may burn in hell, but so what?
  7. Ok... Has anyone else seen this movie? I watched it last night when I had a fever, and couldn't properly analyze it. But, here's what I thought:

    Key Points:
    1) Wow, Italians in the 50's are uber sexy, even the older ones.
    2) Cadillac: American car, in Rome?
    3) AMAZING cinematography.
    4) WHO ARE THESE PEOPLE? What are they... no, not that!
And finally... This is the longest movie... EVER.

This movie is like 5 in one. It follows the main male character (Marcello) around through very different circles of people. He is a journalist, so the majority of them are famous celebrities, writers, or breaking news stories. Marcello is of course devilishly handsome, and has many affairs. He isn't married, but he lives with a suicidal girlfriend named Emma. This movie is definately worth seeing, but I suggest seeing it with someone when neither of you have very much to do so you have the three hours to watch it, and then re-watch to get the parts you missed. Also, there are a great deal of layers on this movie... peel back slowly as to not blind yourself.
  8. Broken Flowers is yet another movie where Bill Murray gets together with a group of very talented actors, is the main character, and KILLS the movie by his character's total lack of anything but mopiness.

The concept of the movie is interesting: Successful guy is retired, he was a bit of a casa-nova in his day... His girlfriend of the moment leaves him, and he recieves a letter. Now, this is not just any letter. It's pink, first off, and has a remarkably light post mark, without a return address. The letter informs Bill that he has an 18 year old son who is on his way to find/see him. Murray then makes a list of possible mothers, shows them to his next door neighbor (Winston, played by Jeffrey Wright), who is a bit of a Sherlock Holmes enthusiast. He sends Murray on a road trip across the country to seek out clues as to which woman is most likely the mother of his son. Why he couldn't call them on the phone or just ask them directly is beyond me, because it would have saved two hours of my life that I lost in the theatre.

I was unimpressed with this display from Murray, although is supporting cast was brilliant. Believe me, the movie had it's moments and lines, like all movies, but fell short of making a positive impression on me. Thoughts?
  9. HELLO EVERYONE!

I miss you all! Anthony, we must chat soon.

As far as this trip, it seems quite awesome, but they don't seem to be going in the direction of Japan smile.gif

Ah... that's the American in me, point A to point B. Sorry, I'm trying to cultivate patience, but it's not working out so well.
  10. Mine is definately dying in a plane crash. I really hate those rides at theme parks where you drop like 50 feet... I could not handle dropping a mile. I'd probably die of fear before the plane actually hit anything.

I have no fear about killing people at my job. The worst they could get would be a paper cut from the tickets that I send them in the mail, and for the grief that I get from them about the whereabouts of their tickets, they deserve far worse!
  11. Only in Vermont... Speaking of Ben and Jerry's, they have their factory about half an hour south of my school apartment. We used to go when I was little with my family. You drive up to this huge building with cows grazing on the hills below. On the tour of the factory, you learn that there are people who's sole purpose at the Factory is to try the ice cream and see how it tastes. Then there are the token photo ops (ie, sticking your head in the holes and becoming Ben/Jerry on a gigantic B&J lid)... Ahhh, memories.
  12. I think it would be sick if you had a "questionably" dead musical celebrity play-off. So... you've got Elvis, he's doing his thing... Tu-Pac walks out and starts doing a duet with him! Who are some other questionably dead people?
  13. I have wondered the same thing... How is it blue when I'm wearing a red shirt? Maybe the answer is that we all have pre-natal hair folicles that grow on the inside of our belly buttons that are blue. They grow at an exceptionally fast rate, but their roots are very fragile and don't hurt when you pull the PN fuzz out... Food for thought. smile.gif
  14. Way to go on the 4.0! Major kudos, they are such yummy bars.

Well the bodacious bodice is done, my acting final went well, and I squeaked through my finance presentations. My final bodice does not look like the picture shown... I would have been overjoyed not having to put in sleeves, or sleeve tu-tus, or a collar... It looks more like this:

Now, the difference here being mine had sleeves that were so large that I barely fit through the door (we measured, I was like 34 inches wide with my sleeves). Pictures shall come... all of the girls in the class and I are putting together a calender (and it's fitting since there are 12 of us). Let me know if you wish to see them!
  15. So, The Killers rock. And to my good luck, they are coming to Montreal the day I move into my new apartment... JOY!

Is anyone else seeing any hot shows this summer? In the US there are the usual summer tours, like Ozfest and DMB, Tom Petty and the black crows (I'd kill to see that show) etc. Who's going? smile.gif
  16. Well, French, playwriting and finance are dead... but finance put up a hell of a fight... My professor decided that he didn't want to write a final exam, so we all presented our final projects together which equated to 25 final projects. No biggie, powerpoint it up, and get the hell out of there.

    But no.

2 hours and 45 minutes of "Ummm, the horizontal analysis showed that this company lost profits from 2003 to 2004, but it's higher than the industry standard... etc"

We decided to jazz ours up.

    "Responsibilities:
    Emily: Made food, brought beer.
    Nick: Got Emily Drunk."

Kenny B (our prof), laughed, so it was worth it. let's hope he doesn't fail us smile.gif

    To go:
Acting final: Memorize scene in which I'm acusing a professor of raping me (drama drama drama), and come up with a routine for my lock-jaw society woman.
Costuming: Finish this bodice, once and for all!
  17. As the close of my Junior year of college approaches, I decided to share some of my final project with you all and see if, indeed, anyone else felt like lamenting the loss of their spring semester (which for me has been kind of like a semester of destiny--- spanks Kate and A).

    French 2: Final Quiz/Oral Exam-Completed

Playwriting: Final Portfolio, including Three original plays (two 10 min, one full length).

    Finance: Final Presentation-Friday, 4pm

Acting: Final Scene/Emily's 1 minute of crazy WASP experiance- Monday, 8AM

Costuming: Final Bodice (and skirt? wink.gif )- Wednesday, 6:30 PM

Thus ends the Junior year of this girl's college experiance... What's everyone else got on deck?
